When I moved from Canada to the U.S., I did not have healthcare for almost a year. That was very eye opening/terrifying, and then when I did get health insurance, it didn’t seem to cover anything…? Every year I would call my health insurance company and cry, “why am I still paying you?????” (I later learned it was because I hadn’t finished paying off my deductible.)

Given how confusing and frustrating American health care coverage is, I couldn’t understand why so many people had a negative association with Canadian health care, which, at the very least, is so much less complicated and less expensive.
